White House is a charming group of buildings set around a courtyard opposite the village green in Westbury, Tasmania. The Museum houses a number of exquisite collections, including antique furniture, cycles, childhood memorabilia, toys and vehicles.
It was built by Thomas White in 1841. Thomas arrived in Tasmania in 1821 as a convict, shipped for the crime of grand larceny. He served out his seven year sentence and after being set free purchased property in Westbury and built White House as a corner store and dwelling.
The property was purchased by Mrs Felicity Clemons in 1969 and after extensive restoration of the buildings was opened to the public in 1971 as a private museum.
